Is it creepy to get a text from someone you dont talk to?

There is this girl I liked since the begining of my sophmore year but I was to much of a to talk to her and I told one of my friends about this and it just sohappens he has her number and is telling me I should text her but im afraid ill look like a creepy stalker.... What do you girls out there think about this?
